Hungary

Hungary is located centrally in Europe. The country has almost 10 million inhabitants. The senior citizens speak a little German, the adolescents also speak English.

Hungary has a continental climate. The winters can be very cold, sometimes the country is snow covered. The summers are hot. Hungary has 2000 hours of sunshine per year. Because of the climate, Hungary is a perfect holiday destination.

Hungary has four different landscapes: large and small lowlands, mountains and hills. The country has ten national parks. Hortobágy is the largest park and is located south of Budapest. You can therefore easily visit this national park.

Budapest is located on either side of the river Danube. This beautiful city is the political capital. It is also the cultural capital of Central Europe. In Budapest you can visit many places:

  • Castle and castle hill (Várhegy)
  • Matthias Church (Mátyástemplom)
  • Fishermen’s Bastion (Halászbástya)
  • Táncsics Mihály utca
  • Parliament House
  • Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere) with the Millennium Monument
  • Városliget (city park) with:
    • the Vajdahunyad Castle
    • Gundel restaurant
    • Vidám Park (amusement park)
    • The Állatkert (zoo)
  • Centre (fifth district) is located on the opposite of Castle hill. This is both business and shopping centre of Budapest.
  • St Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István Bazilika)
  • Theatre district
  • Bath houses (some from the Turkish period)
  • Restored Great Market Hall
  • Famous coffee houses

Near the holiday park you will find the touristic town Tata. The railway between Vienna and Budapest passes this town. Tata has 24.000 residents and is situated near two large lakes. Tata was founded in the 12th century. You can visit beautiful old churches and a castle. Near Tata you can walk in a park that has natural resources. Tata has a urban connection with the Dutch city Alkmaar.
